Paints
Oil paints vary a lot in terms of quality and price. Plus, you have a variety of brands to choose from, so for a beginner it can be quite confusing. I wouldn't recommend the cheapest paints and I also wouldn't recommend the most expensive ones, especially if you're just starting out. Go for something in between. Recommendations? I recommend Winsor & Newton paints. They are an excellent value for money. Also, you don't have to buy every color in existence. Instead, start with a basic set and learn about oil paint color mixing.
Brushes
Brushes come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and price ranges. When it comes to brushes, always go for quality. Cheap brushes tend to shed hairs, they won't hold their shape well and will be cumbersome and frustrating to use. If you want to avoid headaches, stay away from cheap brushes. Recommendations? I like Da Vinci brushes. Also learn how to take care of your brushes. A good brush cleaner and preserver is a must.
