It's very easy to spend a small fortune on new paints, brushes and other materials. But it doesn't have to be that way.
The very first thing you have to do is make a list of all the things you really need. Believe me, you don't really need every color or brush size in existence. Define your budget, start with essentials and always try to find special deals. Here are some tips on how to go about it.
First, what will you need? Well, you willl need a painting surface, some paint, something to mix your colors on, something to paint with, and something to clean things up.
Most money can be saved in two areas – paints and brushes. Let's start with paints.
PaintsOil paints vary a lot in terms of quality and price. Plus, you have a variety of brands to choose from, so for a beginner it can be quite confusing. I wouldn't recommend the cheapest paints and I also wouldn't recommend the most expensive ones, especially if you're just starting out. Go for something in between. Recommendations? I recommend Winsor & Newton paints. They are an excellent value for money.
Also, you don't have to buy every color in existence. Instead, start with a basic set and learn about mixing colors.
BrushesBrushes come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and price ranges. When it comes to brushes, always go for quality. Cheap brushes tend to shed hairs, they won't hold their shape well and will be cumbersome and frustrating to use. If you want to avoid headaches, stay away from cheap brushes. Recommendations? I like Da Vinci brushes.
Also learn how to take care of your brushes. A good brush cleaner and preserver is a must.
Where To Buy?You'll probably find the best deals on the internet. Always be on the look-out for discounts and specials. It's worth it. Remember, shopping for oil paint supplies doesn't have to break the bank. Shop smart and save big.
